Maubuisson Abbey

The Maubuisson Abbey was a French monastery, suppressed at the time of the French Revolution.

History

The abbey was established by Blanche of Castile. At the end of her life, she withdrew in the abbey and died there in 1252.^[1] The abbey thrived financially under royal patronage until the Hundred Years War. Twice in the fifteenth century did the nuns support rival abbesses.

The tenure of Antoinette de Dinteville (1482–1524) brought new prosperity, but this was destroyed during the French Wars of Religion, during which the abbey was looted twice by Huguenots.

The abbey was closed in 1793, after a century of further decay.

Buried

Both Blanche of Castile and Gabrielle d'Estrées were buried here.
